Today, Mondia returns to what it has always been: an authentically Swiss Made brand, born in the heart of Le Locle, the cradle of great watchmaking worldwide.
And with you, this new chapter comes to life.

1935
THE ORIGINS
The Origins. In 1935, in the heart of Le Locle, the cradle of Swiss watchmaking, Paul Vermot decided to make his dream come true: he officially registe- red the Mondia brand. The first watches he created were mechanical, hand-wound with steel or gold cases and elegant, minimalist dials, small precision jewels that told the time with understated elegance. In the 1940s, Mondia began to make a name for itself beyond the borders of Switzerland. The company expanded into Europe, winning over enthusiasts with automatic watches and chronographs, combining technical innovation and refined style. The models bore the influence of Art Deco and military aesthetics, harmonising classic lines and functionality. Thus, step by step, Mondia established itself as a brand that not only measured time, but told a story of tradition, ingenuity and Swiss passion.

1955
THE TIME OF GROWTH AND PRESTIGE
Time of growth and prestige. In the 1950s, Mondia strengthened its presence in Italy and Spain, winning over enthusiasts and collectors with watches that combined elegance and character. The domed dials, applied hour markers and stylised Arabic nu- merals immediately caught the eye, transforming each watch into a small masterpiece on the wrist. The attention to artisanal detail, crafted with patience and dedication, was evident in every finish and every component. This meticulous approach did not go un- noticed: those who wore a Mondia knew that they were wearing not only time on their wrist, but also the craftsmanship and passion of an uncompromising Swiss watchmaking tradition.

From 1960 to 1990
MARKET EXPANSION AND CHANGE
In the 1960s, Mondia embarked on a phase of great innovation and prestige. The brand began experi- menting with more sporty designs and chronographs with increasingly precise movements, aiming to com- bine functionality and style. Some models offered advanced features, such as GMT for those travelling between time zones, a tachymeter for measuring speed and increasingly reliable water resistance, confirming the company’s commitment to technical quality. An emblematic example of this period is the Mondia Chronograph 17 Rubis, launched in the 1960s and now highly sought after by collectors. This wa- tch perfectly represented Mondia’s innovative and prestigious spirit: combining precision, attractive de- sign and craftsmanship, it became a symbol of Swiss excellence in the world of watchmaking. In the 1970s, Mondia experienced a period of great expansion but also significant challenges. Numerous models in brushed steel, automatic chronographs and quartz watches were launched, demonstrating the brand’s capacity for innovation. However, the so-called “quartz crisis” was beginning to take its toll: Mondia, like many other Swiss brands, struggled to keep up with growing competition from Seiko and Casio. Despite the difficulties, the design became bold and experimental: orange, blue and green dials, oversized cases, expressing the brand’s desire to keep up with the times and attract new enthusiasts. In the 1980s and 1990s, Mondia underwent a period of restructuring. The brand was absorbed by Dixi SA, resulting in a reduction in production and a temporary exit from the global market. The brand’s presence became more discreet: few models were produced, often with external components, but the traditional craftsmanship and reputation for quality continued to characterise every Mondia timepiece, ready for a future revival.

Since 2003
RENOVATION
Renovation. In the 2000s, Mondia experienced a true renaissance. The brand was taken over by Sordi S.p.A., an Italian company, which decided to breathe new life into an icon of Swiss watchmaking. Thus, a new identity was born, articulated in two comple- mentary souls. On the one hand, Mondia Swiss re- presented tradition: Swiss Made watches with ETA or Sellita movements, classic and refined designs, for those seeking elegance and precision without compromise. On the other hand, Mondia Italy embo- died a young and dynamic spirit: Italian design, con- temporary style, affordable prices and moreflexble production, designed to win over a wider audience attentive to trends. This dual spirit allowed Mondia to reconquer the market, combining the solidity of Swiss tradition with the energy and creativity of Italian design.

2026
HISTORY CHANGES BUT CONTINUES
History changes but continues. In 2026, Diffusione Orologi s.r.l., owner and distributor of many well-known watch brands, acquired the Mondia brand from Sordi s.p.a.. Diffusione Orologi s.r.l., it cho- se to bring the brand back to its Swiss roots. Thus, the new Mondia Swiss project is born: a collection that combines tradition and modernity, recovering hi- storical models and reinterpreting them with modern materials, sapphire crystals, Swiss automatic move- ments and contemporary designs. No more division between lines or identities: only Mondia Swiss. Pure, authentic, faithful to its historical essence.
Every time you look at your Mondia watch, remember that that small, continuous movement is much more than a mechanism:
it is the breath of time.
It's proof that authentic things never stop living. They renew themselves, like Mondia. Like you.
